Mikey

My heart is so full right now as I sit in the hospital room of a dying student from my school. He is only 5 years old and was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. His disease is called DIPG. It only affects children and is very rare. He was diagnosed in January and here we sit 8 months later watching this baby fight for his life. Please pray for this family. He is one tough little guy but it is inevitable that the end is near. It breaks my heart but I can't believe how many people have already been touched by him. He is a big Alabama fan and several players, fans, and even coach Saban have called him and prayed with the family. You can see how precious he is! Pray that he is comfortable and pray they family can have the strength they need to deal with it.

Mikey went to be with Jesus on September 12.  If you are a prayer warrior, PLEASE remember his family in your prayers.

August

We have been in school for 3 weeks now.  Wow!  Time flies....I guess.  This is my first year having a complete EL reading class.  It is so different and it's a new challenge, but I love it and those kids!
I have been staying at school until 5 or 6 every night.  I have class tomorrow night so I am trying to get things done now.

Today, we worked on the word schema.  I really want my kids to know that vocabulary word and use it correctly so this is what I did.  They had fun and when I asked them at the end of the day what we call all of the information in our heads....they said schema!!!!!

Also, my precious little John, who will be an artist drew this illustration for his writing.  I love it because it shows his culture!

That's all for now!

Beginning of the year

I am absolutely worn out. Whew! This is the 3rd day of school and I always forget how rough it is. I made myself go home at 5 tonight even though there are mounds of things to do. I did manage to get some teaching in today, so that's a plus. Lol

The first picture is my bulletin board. I love it because my school is so diverse. I read The Sneetches and then we talked about how we are all different. Then we made the fish.

The others are about inferring. We used the book The Kissing Hand.

Classroom Decor

So I have been to my classroom twice and I haven't gotten much done.  I am going to post pictures as I get things done.

Door to my classroom....I made this sign today and came home a bright green mess.

I get really tired of the kiddos asking me, "Where do we go today?"  So I made this schedule so all I have to do is point.

Here are my class rules.  I have them hanging on a shelf that will be close to my behavior system.  They are easy to remove, if I need to hang them on the board or where ever.

Reading corner

I needed another bookcase for my chapter books and didn't want a huge one.  So, I ended up with a DVD case.  The chapter books fit perfectly.

I made this for the color and for good behavior.

Word Wall
I actually just redid the smiley border, and made it leopard print.  My friend is making me curtains and table clothes!

These are my daily baskets.  When all work is finished for the day, you see this paper.

This is my word wall for all subjects except reading.

Eventually there will be four of these.  We will stamp our thumb prints on the branches for each season.  I will have to get creative for winter.
